As any web developer worth their salt knows, a website is never finished. Like a work of theatre or dance – and unlike, say, a movie or a painting – there’s no point where you can say, “That’s it. It’s done”. Even when we manage to let go and make a site live, we know it will continue to grow, change and (hopefully) thrive. “It’s ready to go live. I’ll fix that other thing tomorrow”.

SitePoint itself is no different. Over the last 10 years+, this site has evolved, and continues to evolve. We’ve been through some significant major makeovers, and we’ve continuously worked on making the site better and better – sometimes in very obvious ways and sometimes in such tiny steps that no-one really notices.

Right now, we’ve reached one of those major milestones.

As of tomorrow, SitePoint will look very different. We’re confident of the choices we’ve made, but no-one really knows what you – the most important observer – will make of it.

One of the most significant changes for me personally — and I’ve been a user and fan of SitePoint since its inception — is that SitePoint no longer identifies itself as a blog. We publish articles by web practitioners ranging from world-renowned professionals and experts in their fields to rabidly enthusiastic amateurs who have an idea they want to share. If there’s a SitePoint point of view, it’s one generated by a collective impression left by all our articles as a whole, not by a single blogger.

We’ll still be publishing reader comments on articles – and, in fact, we have a fairly radical new way for you to do that – and article authors will still address those comments and engage in discussion of the topics they cover.

So, technically, this is indeed the last SitePoint post.

Tomorrow is another day.

See you there.
